Was Monsters of Rock 88 the best line up ever of all time?
And I don't feel guilty 2 people died that day either. It was still a fantastic gig.

But all time best live EVER, Ace Frehley when he played Hammersmith Odeon. His only UK solo gig. I went to a record signing in Kingston, got his auto graph on his EP Live + 1, along with rest of Frehleys Comets. Then 2 days later went to the gig. I was high for days after.

The '80s Doningtons were mostly great.
Best ever gig? Maybe when Sabbath reformed in '97 at the NEC.
    Motorhead at the Glasgow Apollo?
Kiss at Wembley, original line up + makeup?
Alice Cooper, Edinburgh '86 and '87
    Metallica '85 (really)
    Judas Priest '81
    Gary Numan Glasgow QMU '01

PTC, you talkin 70's KISS or reunion tour for Wembley?

If it's the reunion tour, I'd have to say that Donnington headline (which at the time looked like the only time we would see KISS reformed to original line-up & make up, until they announced tour at end of gig)out did Wembley. Although that maybe just because I managed to get to the front at Donnington and stayed there all day (never even went to loo, I was prepared to pee myself - which I didn't just for the record).
80ft blow up dummies of each band member next to stage, awesome.

Saw both but at wembley I was hallucinating due to sleep deprivation from driving down so that might have given it the edge.
Saw them without the make up a few times too, interesting.

I remember seeing the video for that on Entertainment USA with Jonathan King (before MTV made it over here etc). And then he interviewed them as well, some footage of them playing in Houston. They were still in make up then.

Still remember my first KISS concert. Leicester Demontford Hall Lick It Up tour, they had just taken off the make up.

Aye, I've still got that interview on grainy VHS, "We're big people and we like to play out of big amplifiers, don't you know that !"-Simmons to King.
The lick it up tour was good, the big tank stage set, saw it at the Glasgow Apollo June '83?

In fact in late'83-early'84 there was a line of great gigs at the Apollo, Motorhead, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Saxon one after the other, ah, those were the days.
