I'm heading to the western trailhead either May 13th or 14th to attempt a thru-hike and was hoping for some advice. I'm hoping for some good ascents and some moderately difficult terrain. Will I find that on the GR-11? How available is resupply? Water? What kind of temperatures/weather should I expect mid-may - mid-june? Just how fluent do I need to be in spanish to get by? Did I forget anything? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Good Ascents - depends upon what you mean by 'good'

Moderately difficult terrain - yes, snow plus knee killing descents

Weather - probably good most of the time, Atlantic mist in the west

    Temperature - 20s

    Resupply - 3 days max

    Water - no issue

Spanish - get by with minimal

    Forget anything - crampons ?

    Taxi,
I'll be hiking some of the GR11 from 27th May. I start in Lescun & trek over the border to join the GR11 just before Canfranc & then continue on GR11 until Areu, just before Andorra.
Depending how quick you walk the first ten days we may bump into each other.
Never walked the path before so I don't have first hand experience. Though you want to add some maps - GR11 Senda Pirenaica by Prmes & cicerone are bringing out a new guide book in May.
    Good luck,
    Ian.

    Ian y Zen,

Very cool, I wasn't sure what map would be best. I'm glad they're coming out with an updated one in May. I'll keep an eye out there for you. I'll be the American with a big goofy grin and horrible Spanish!

Hi, I'm the one with the beige dog, just incase their others with dogs. He's from Mexico so I've got the Spanish covered..I hope!

Got the new guide - great bits on variants and uptodate on rerouted parts.

    Ian y Zen
