Saw this in Planet Fear the other day. They have several for sale. Anyone used this or seen it? ( Other than 'Petesy' who raves about it but he is a T Nova laser fan anyway.) Terra Nova use the less strong Cuben whereas MLD use the Tougher variety in their cuben shelters.

I've (seen through) one pitched on the CT in the US....but got no closer than that.

By the time you've added stuffsack(s) and replaced the 1g pegs with one's that work - say Ruta Locura Sorex the weight is going to be over 600g which puts quite a few other shelters within range....

I saw one on the OMM in Scotland 2 or 3 years ago. TBH having owned a LC I think the Ultra is a gimmick made purely for the record. I think Planet fear had lent it to a couple of people that they sponsored.

The LC needs to be pulled really tight then it doesn't flap so much which lots of people don't like about it.

It's based on the Photon I think so has less space.

Making one in cuben fibre which apparently has no give in it and with such a complicated shape as this fly would seem to me to be very difficult to pitch taught and not flappy.

If it's been sewn then not glued its durability will be an issue.

The inner isn't CF (the floor is) so is possibly unnecessarily heavy(?)

It's a bonkers amount of money for something that has imho those flaws. In fact it'd be a bonkers amount of money even if it didn't have those flaws.

You need to buy some decent pegs and add 100g.

Unless you are a very flush elite class athlete I'd pass.

All TN want to do is make the lightest gimmicky tent, that costs a fortune. You get plenty of 'early-fitting'practice ready for your coffin later on. Doesn't matter if the tent hasn't got vents fitted on top the fly...they would make the tent weigh too heavy...would'nt break the world record for the lightest tent then. Plenty of condensation??? yeh, that's OK !!
When you contact them and suggest they fix some vents on top the fly, they don't want to know. Stuck in a rut...
