I am in the market for a jacket which will probably get more use in civvy street than the hills, at least initially but which of the two is considered the best?

My choice is governed by price as I can get them mail order rather than splash the cash all at once and as such the choice is restricted.

My cornice works quite well as an overcoat when I'm wearing a suit, especially when it's raining

don't know much about the other one though

    Kate, it is indeed.

I've not been out in the hills for a few years now and I am feeling rather unfit at the moment.

Sadly my car died on me this Thursday so I may have to wait even longer before I get out again.

My girlfriend has a Cornice and she uses it as a towncoat and on the hills. It all depends on individual build, but it seems to have one of those cuts that accommodates bulky clothes (such as worn around town) and normal hill wear. She has been impressed by how dry she is after some pretty horrible weather.

I have a Cornice long version. It keeps me dry, but hood is awful. I do have a small head, but can't get it tight to my head at all.

Does it have to be a Berghaus? I like The North Face jackets myself I'm impressed with their HyVent. Mine's a Resolve, I think, it's strange that it's not on the label!? I only paid about 30 or something stupidly cheap like that for it, it was off eBay, used but in as new condition. Hood is a bit naff without having a hat on underneath as are just about all jackets why they have to make them all helmet compatible I don't know but other than that it's good, best jacket I've ever had.
