Visited James Leckies again last week, got myself a cracking Force 10 20l daysack, hydration sack compatible, rubberised base, waterproof zips. RRP £80 for £29. He had some other gear including craghoppers walking poles for £10.99. I was told he will have a load of ODLO thermal gear coming soon at around a third of the retail price.

Visited Leckies the middle of last year and bought a Craghoppers rucksack fairly cheaply. Several months later I was staying at the bunkhouse at Station Lodge, Tulloch. At the same time staying there was a group from a Falkirk hill walking club One chap said to me that he recognised me as a customer in his shop earlier that year. It was the owner of the shop so he is a hillwalking enthusiast. I din't see all his gear to see what bargains he was using.
Friends say that any cheap hillwalking gear goes very quickly so those in the Falkirk area will need to make frequent visits to the shop to bag a bargain.

For years almost everything I've worn has been from the karrimor Accrington factory shop, their techy stuff fitted me perfectly in a sample size large (not just the price, okay).
Frankly I fear for my future, my supply has been cut off and full price gear scares me.

Well Cameron I have been waiting for two years now for all your old tested gear to head east but to no avail. Remember the poor old Aberdonian in your next clear out!!

Rohan have some good prices on merino garments in their sale. I just got some long johns for £25. That's a lot cheaper than the Icebreaker ones.

i spoke to James Leckie about the the walking gear and he told me that the ODLO thermals are a well known brand on the continent, and he has seen them for sale when walking in Austria. Anyone know if they are any good?

I've used a few Odlo garments in the past James and they are very good indeed. If my memory serves me correctly I think they're Scandinavian...

Montane Featherlite windshirts are on offer at Backpackinglight. They are probably the best out there for what they do. Absolutely brilliant and less than £20!!

    BARGAIN!!

I see backpackinglight are doing free pair of Terra Pants with every Superfly jacket and 2 for the price of 1 on some Buff thype thingies.
Cookers half price, titanium bits cheap and Sub Zero stuff as a bundle. Don't know how they manage to do that and all those 'podcasts'. Bob must be knackered!

The Tecapa is avery solid boot - a bit stiff for me though.
I settled for the Vortex, which will be ideal for local tracks
