No it's not. It's a CVE that didn't sink, despite a Zaukonig attack on it.

I'm not a refugee from anywhere. I've as much right to be here and comment as you have. Unless you own this website?

Please share with us all the extent of your clinical background and extensive knowledge in matters of ER medicine. I'd be delighted to learn from someone who is apparently so much more knowledgable.

The pardon was a polite way of saying that I don't have a clue what you're going on about.

Please share with us all, the extent of your clinical background and knowledge in matters of emergency medicine.

Not that it's relevant to anything that's been discussed here but it's clear you're dying to get it off your chest.

Go on, impress us, you know you want to.

Map and Compass requires more skill to use. Therefore if you use map and compass you keep practicing that higher skill level, so when things start to go wrong you have the best skills available to sort it out, calling if necessary on technology to back it up.

Mapping technology is easier to use, but is that a benefit? If it does go wrong at critical moments how good will you be at using the back up map and compass you carry, if you haven't had to use that skill for months. And of course the more reliable the technology gets the less frequently you will use the back up, and the less good you will become at it. After all the rule used to be "carry a map and compass" then it became "carry a map and compass and know how to use it". There is no point in carrying a map and compass as an emergency back up if you don't regularly practice using them.

I like the skill of navigation - not having it would take something away from the experience and enjoyment of hillwalking. ButI do carry a GPS as a seldom used back up

"Map and Compass requires more skill to use" in your opinion. you've obviously never used a gps.

"how good will you be at using the back up map and compass you carry, if you haven't had to use that skill for months." i can still ride a bike despite not having been on one for years.

There is no point in carrying a gps as an emergency back up if you don't regularly practice using it

"If it does go wrong at critical moments " like your map blowing away or your compass poinitng in the wrong direction?carry a back up like you do with a map.

neither is right. neither is wrong. they're just doing the same thing differently and it's personal choice which you prefer.
