Why is Cameron McNeish on this list?

It's because he was chosen by the Brasher team to be on it.

I'm pished, and I managed to work that out. By reading the article.

Why isn't Chris Townsend a candidate either?

What about Mick Fowler? If Joe Simpson is on it why not the guy who tried his best to lower him off the Suile Grande and the person who is arguably the better mountaineer out of the two people on the famouns "Touching the Void" jaunt?

Is it only Brits BTW? Conrad Anker should be in there too if its a global one. Plus there should be some sherpas too. Hamish MacInnes?

Not sure I would put Simpson in there because he is really, mostly famous for being a bit of an accident. Although Doug Scott and Sir Chris Bonnington are right to be in that list. Of course The Ogre was their big accident but that was on the hardest high altitude climbing to date according to some too. Impressive climbing / mountaineering history those two.

Since it is an X-factor thing and not based on what they have done or how they have progressed mountaineering I'm not sure what merit it has apart from promoting Brasher Boots. Still prefer Brasher to Keen myself.

No, that was Simon Yates. However, Mick Fowler should definitely be on the list. He's one of very few mountaineers to hold down a proper job and still do first ascents in most climbing disciplines.

It was a tough but fair decision to pick the final 5 but Chris Townsend was definitely discussed.

I can't understand why Bear Grylls isn't in that list.

I'm with sbrt - definitely should have Joss Naylor in there. Anyone who can do all the Wainwrights in a week and complete various other hill challenges in ridiculous weather conditions must be some sort of hillmaster.
