Do you want any facilities? Because there's an informal camping site at Cwm Llwch, SO005244. No facilities at all, but very convenient for the north ridge of Pen y Fan.

Unfortunately Grawen on the A470 is shut for the winter now, but there's various options on this info sheet. Although it was updated this summer, I don't know how up to date all the entries are, if you get my drift. Anything near Cantref will be very close to Pen y Fan.

You can park at Cwm Llwch, Steve. Just take the minor road til it ends in a gate, drive through onto the track, and there's a big grassy patch on your left. People park and camp in this area, or along the riverside up the track. The farmer never seems to mind. If you want to go a bit further, Llyn Cwm Llwch a couple of kms walk south is a wonderful wildcamping spot.

Well, if he asks you to move on, just move on! People have campfires there, so he seems a fairly easy-going sort of chap!

    Have a great trip.

Great - hope there might be a trip report / photos later?

I'm heading up to the Beacons on sunday, sounds like there should still be a bit of snow up there then

It was great walking on pen y fan this morning...apart from the light aircraft that crashed. about a quarter of a mile away. the pilot was fine though....just a bit shaken up.
