    Hi there,

We (group of 7) planning a long weekend in Sutherland in June, Ben More Assynt and Suilvan being of particular interest. We were intendeing to stay at the Inchnadamp Lodge but they are fully booked for our weekend

Can anyone recommend any other particular hostel or cheap cottage in the area?

    Cheers ... Simon.

We stayed at a self-catering cottage herein Inverkirkaig a while ago - absolutely wonderful. 2 minutes from the beach, perfect for Suilven and not that far from Ben More Assynt. Lochinver close at hand for good food - check out the famous pie shop.

P.S. Here's awholeload of cottages in Assynt. Rubbish eh?

You'll be lucky to get a cottage for a long weekend in June, most look for Sat/Sat bookings.

There's a youth hostel at Achmelvich.

Good campsite at Clachtoll. The owners Jim and Ishbel are great and the site is on the edge of a beautiful beach. We walked Ben More and Suilvan while we were there a few years ago. The fact that we only intended to stay for a few days but we were there for 10 days says it all !

Its is a bit far north, well as far as you can go, but I have stayed hereonce for several days and it was fine as bunkhouses go. It gives you access to some interesting hills in that far NW corner and you could do Ben More Assynt en-route or on your return south. There is also a wee Youth Hostel at Durness which I also like, although very basic with no heating in the dorms, but you don't need any in June!!!

Alternative would be stay in Ullapool where there is a good YH on the main street. There is also an independent hostel which I have never used.

When I stayed there the warden nicked the scones I'd baked! .. ... ... ... It was over 30 years ago, though, so he's probably moved on by now. Superb area. The hills NE of Ben More Assynt are very wild and beautiful.

Achmelvich should be quiet in June. Probably my favourite place when the weather is being kind.

thanks all for the help above, less than two weeks to go so way overdue for mesort out some routes!!!

Any advice gratefully received on books, web pages andbest routes. (esp. up Suilven and Ben More Assynt, we'll have two cars, so we don't necessarily need to do fully circular routes, first night in Inchnadamph so probably good to do BMA from there, next two nights in Achmelvic Beach, so hope to get to Suilven from roundabout there eg. Loch Inver ).

    Cheers .... Simon.

looking at the map for Suilven, we could start from Glencanisp Lodge and finish at the parking area in from Inverkirkaig - hopefully this is a decent option.
