I'm just about to write a full review on it for the site. I think it's excellent. Richard Gear did a bit about it in his latest set of answers as well.

I look forward to reading your review JD. I've been looking to find out the weight (incl batteries) which I don't see listed on the satmap site. Any idea?

It's a real world 268 grammes complete with three rechargeable AAs.

Hmm, that's quite a weight - well over half a pound in old money. I'll look out for your review with interest to check out the Bangs-for-Grammes, especially as you'd still need maps/compass to be safe from reliance on electronics/battery life etc. Thanks for the info.

No probs. It's not light, it's true, but of that 85 grammes are the AAs, I think the lithium rechargeable battery pack weighs a bit less though, so in classic lightweight style, you can pay more and carry less, probably.

I do think it's hard to quantify bangs for grammes as you put it. In certain situations you could argue that double that would be worth carrying if it stops you walking off the edge of a corrie in a white out, at other times you'd probably not even use it.

I do think it's very good at what it does though and very well thought out and executed.
