We are looking at purchasing an ultralight 1-2 or 2 man tent for backpacking. So far I have found two that are new for this coming spring.

    Vaude Hogan Ultralite at 1.52Kg
    TNF Tadpole 23 under 2Kg.

As they are new I can't find any reviews about them. Jon or anyone know anything about them or similar products?

    TIA

Not about them in particular, but I'd like to put in a vote for Vaude's tents.

Top tents, and not that expensive either.

The V H U will be £220....lot dearer than the rest due to the lighter more technical fabric

Have a look at the Saunders range at www.robertsunders.co.uk.

Might be worth looking at the Hilleberg range. The 2 man Nalo is just over 2kg, and if it's anything like my Akto will be beautifully made and bombproof. Pricey though.

MSR zoid is the 2 man version at 1.9kg and £200. It seems quite roomy too.

Thanks for you suggestions guys, but they would perhaps be best posted on Ben's tent thread.

What I would really like to know is if anyone knows more than the sketchy details I can find out on websites about the two specific tents I named:-

    Vaude Hogan Ultralite at 1.52Kg
    TNF Tadpole 23 under 2Kg

Maybe I'll find some at Tent City at the Outdoors Show? Do any retailers read this? Are you taking said tents along?

    TIA

Indeed. Twitch response last night, before reading through all the forum threads and realising I am well out of date. Bad webfu. Apologies to all the souls who now have to read these posts as mails land first thing......

Hogan ultralite sounds tempting, love the 'heavy' version.

If you find something please give me a shout!

    Cheers. Mark

Mark - have you slept in one? I think the ultralite one is a an inch longer or something. Was it claustrophobic? I'm used to sharing a dome tent the size of a TNF Roadrunner...

No, only the MKII which is bigger, that's a 'decent' 3 man tent though.

The Ultralite is longer than the standard Hogan, thats a bit of a turn up for the plus fours isn't it?

Think I'll borrow a Hogan from the D of E store at school and try it out in the garden then. Keep saying I'm going to do it but never remember....

The Vaude site doesn't mention the Ultralite.

The only 1/2 person tents it has are the Light Wing and Spider I

Cheers, it looks ok, but as far as I can see they have got rid of the elastic pole loops that make the Hogan/MK II such a doddle to pitch.

Plus the standard versions fly & inner can be pitched together or fly first.

But it is almost half the weight!

How did you find out about the pole loops? This is just the sort of info I've been rooting round for....

Half the weight? Exactly what we need. We aim to backpack without our backpacking sacs, if you know what I mean...we can manage an overnighter with Bob with his big pack and me with my 40+L one crammed like a sardine..but he wants to dump off another kilo to make space for more wine....

    Sounds like a plan!

Just saw the loops were gone from the picture you sent me to, the Hogan has VERY handy elastic loops on the outside, they were not there on the Ultralite, the fly was pitched over the poles in the traditional stylee...

By the way I was mega impressed with the poles on the MKII, all in one shockcorded numbers, give the centre pole a shake and they all jig together into the finished article - so quick to erect..

Standard Hogan is 2.8 k plus change so they have done some serious dieting!

It seems as though all these manufacturers are shedding weight by making the inners mostly mesh which is very cold at this time of year.
That Zoid thing is awfully drafty and I tried it indoors!
