I heard something earlier on R4 about the walk up to the crash site today, Guy, and wondered whether you were one of the heavy breathers in the background

It sounded like a brilliant moment on the top.

    Eh? What crash site? Where?

I know there's a memorial to a Canadian Wellington crew who crashed and died in, I think, 1941 in the Brecon Beacons. The wreckage has been left in situ and there is a cemented cairn with a plaque.
I know it is visited every year because there are poppy wreaths old and new there.

I think that's really good because it takes some effort to get there and all those young men should be remembered.

Think the crash site referred to is the Halifax up on Great Carrs.

A permanent memorial has been put up there to the crew, who were all killed in the crash in (1943?)

The vicar of Coniston was on R4 talking about it and I think there was a service held there on 11/11/05.

WD - it was the news y/day evening - not sure what time it was. Actually, it may have been PM. I remember I was making chicken stock so it must have been near tea time...

My mates Uncle was one of the crew of the bomber which crashed on Great Carrs, he was a Scot, I think it is a common belief that all the crew were Canadian. He is buried locally, I will try and post a photo of his grave stone soon.

It was freezing cold first thing with verglas on the rocks on the ascent and on the summit which made it very slippery and I saw a few take tumbles.

However the sun, which had been out since daybreak, soon warmed up the south-facing areas and it got almost warm if you kept moving!

I got my final Wasdale suntan of the year yesterday - first one was in March. Had lots of days sitting outside the tent sunbathing throughout the spring, sumemr and autumn. What a season. Who says it always rains there?

    Hi New to OM.

Was on Great Gable yesterday and what made it for me was the fly past by the search and rescue heli. I'm sure there was a lot more people on top than previous years, somthing to do with the weather I'd imagine.

    Welcome Darren to OM.

Being another Darren, we have too many on this site. Therefore I invite you to the annual "There can be only one Darren Royal Rumble" to be held without informing any other Darren of when it is being held so I win by default :-))

Otherwise glad you had a great time yesterday.
