Having been born and raised at Co'path I feel I need to address some of the negative comments posted. Log into their website and see what an interesting place it is. Just because it hasn't got a pub now, (plans are afoot to convert the old General Store and call it "The Way Inn").At one time it had the best pub in the world. On route you pass Pease Bay with Pub and Nightclub one mile from the village. As Basil Fawlty would say "What do you expect The Hanging Gardens of Babylon" Alan Paxton

Also near Co'path and Pease Bay is the geology mecca of the world.......Siccar Point. This is the famous "Hutton's unconformity".

Hutton postulated that "Devonian old red sandstone lay unconformably on extremely tilted schistus". He was right in every detail apart from the identity of the underlying facies. It is actually greywacke of Silurian age. Proof if it were needed that the Earth is far older than the Bible says, and also that there can be significant gaps between deposition of sediments, either by a hiatus in depostion or due to a period of erosion coupled with a hiatus. The tilted greywacke also shows the effects of tectonic processes.

    Fascinating place...

Alan: it's more usual to append comments to an existing thread, than start a new one with the same title. Then people know what you're on about...

This is the thread Alan is commenting on.

As the writer of first thread on one of the SUW postings I can only say sorry but we were not given the opportunity to find out anything positive about Cockburnspath. After walking about 18 miles from Longformacus in pretty awful weather, when we arrived in the village there was no signs of life, shop was closed, no pub, no accommodation, hardly a soul around, not even a sign to say that we had completed the walk!

I looked at said website and tried hard but failed to find a reference on it to the SUW. Does that say it all?
Also, who in their right mind would plan the route of a long distance walk (and some of the days are veryyyyyyy long distance) which ended at a place with no pub and no
    accommodation?

    Try www.cockburnspath.net
    Click community then community council
click "Pub for Co'path" to get a reference to the SUW. If you browse the other sections you'll find that there's more than meets the eye and the last two or three miles of the SUW passes through or nearby most of it. Also when the SUW was first routed Co'path had an hotel.
