    Austria - wild camping

Off to Austria in the summer. I can't work out if camping is allowed there - nothing seems very clear. It's not mentioned in the latest LP guide either and internet research suggests it's either illegal or tolerated, take your pick... I'd like to camp out of the way as much as possible, maybe use huts at times.

    Any ideas or experience?

    Many thanks,

    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Pitching a tent in the evening and leaving in the morning shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not next to a hut. This is what I did between 2007 and 2013 in the Ennstaler Alpen, Hohe Tauern, Niedere Tauern and Totes Gebirge.
    Good luck!

Camping is allowed in national park in Austria but you're not allowed to make campfire in the wood. BTW, some campsites are dangerous coz of animals and flash flood.
