In case anyone's confused, Huw is my Fiesta who's been in the body shop for a couple of weeks after a run in with a steel post!

Chilly at the rugby tonight; off to the hills tomorrow hoping to see some white stuff.

Aw, hard luck, Taz, it's good weather down here atm, though I suspect the snow dusting got washed out on Sunday night!

Hope she's feeling better now Taz
A touch of snow up here although not lower down, white roads higher up although the snow's not deep.
Tried putting a photo in here but it's having none of it

Daughter better today and went to school again
Quite cold here atm, frost at night and barely above zero in the day. We might actually have the central heating working soon which will be good.
Keeping an eye on the mountain forecasts.

A bit of a covering of snow on the hills up here, not a lot on the road though, not freezing but just above, passing showers of hail/ snow every now and again, 20mph breeze if that.
Hope the building is coming on ok, will have to look at Pete's page .

What do you think about £49 for a
Grivel Haute Route Ice Axe, it's just for self arrest, new, just wanting a basic ice axe.
Although I see there are use ones on Ebay

It should be a perfectly good functional axe, and that looks like a good bargain (Needlesports by any chance?). It's a reasonable weight too.

Aye Matt, that's the one, there are used ones on ebay, I was thinking of the needlesport one, although I won't be using it a lot ( I know, I'm surrounded by hills and should be out on every occasion ), I want to wait for decent weather so I can get a view when I get to the top of the hill.

I noticed on some of the paperwork with the above axe it said " it was not to be used for self insurance", not being sure what it meant I contacted the supplier and they said
"The axe is B rated which means the overall strength of the shaft is
possibly not strong enough to tie in to and belay off, whether it is
buried in the snow or placed via the pick. All the Grivel B rated axes
have this term in the instructions. All B rated axes should however, be
    fine for ice axe/self-arrest."

I looked on the suppliers site and Grivel's page for it,the only thing it mentioned was that the shaft was B rated, just thought I'd mention it , there must be a rating system for them.

Hi Matt, I found this page when looking for the name of a glen with a burn in it, I'm not really asking what it's all about but thought it may be of interest to Mos , all I've got to do now is to get a link in here

Damn, that link was following the text , the burn was Allt Teanga Nan Caiseachan , it's between Loch a Bhraoin and Loch a Nid, it's above the path between the two and before the ruin beside the path, I'm intending to get a bike so I could ride in from the Braemore / dundonnell road along the track/ path in the summer, although it mentions a shieling it's the ruin beside the footpath, still worth a wander up the glen just to see what's there

    Terra Nova Southern Cross 2

    PRICE: £530
    WEIGHT: 2.29kg
    SLEEPS: 2 (1-person model available)

I see OM has done a write up on this tent, wonder how may folk in here ( or that used to be in here ) are going to spend £530 on a tent !, they must be aiming for a different market than me

A slow death on this forum now. Real shame but euthanasia would be a kindness. Pity the guys running it didn't invest some time and effort into it.
