This are a little quiet on here at the minute, anyone free for a day walk come Autumn time?

I'm located between the Peaks and Dales so those areas are preferable, however, I'm not averse to a day drive to Snowdonia or the Lakes. All options on the table

    Just spotted this.

I've checked the calendar and I might have a family commitment that weekend - but if not I'm up for a day wealk. The Peak District is easier for me (or, with a nod to Taz and Pete, the Shropshire hills)

I'd be interested when the details get a bit more finalised

Skip, I was thinking of organising a mini meet by Langollen (Rhuabon Hills).

The location is good for me - Llangollen is an easy two hours drive up the A5 and I've not visited the Ruabon Hills yet.

It hinges on the date. Are you intending October 2nd as in the thread title?

No we did the escarpment walk awhile back and the idea formed then, injury however put a stop to all plans. No we can do this as a day walk or whatever.

That mini meet looks good - I've not been in that area before, Taz.

That's a nice route, Taz. One way gives you the height and views from the top of the cliff and Offa's Dyke path in the other direction, gives you a chance to look up and appreciate the limestone from below.

For anyone who's not familiar with the area (and because I've got the hang of posting pics on here now )

This was taken in October 2014 and gives a good impression of one of the scree slopes. If you click on it you might just see Offa's Dyke path snaking across the scree about a third of the way up

A couple of weekends ago there were still lots of bilberries, the heather was looking good and bracken was just starting to change colour.

a couple more (older pics) to give an idea of scale

I visited the Berwyns for the first time a few weeks back, a really excellent backpack. I'll be back....didn't someone famous say that? It's a seriously brilliant area - I'm up for a meet. Or a walk. Whatever. That link is to the Pieman's blog, I really should update mine!
    I'll watch this space.

Sorry for being so quiet, I've been away in the states. Back soon though. I was thinking Black Hill for a Peaks walk, something me and Skip have mentioned a few times. Fairly obvious circuit from Crowded, more details when I get back!

Also like the idea of the Llangollen mini meet, an area I'd like to explore a bit more

I'm still struggling on/off with various aches n pains ☹️ so will not organise or commit to anything yet. Apart from bursitis my body is going through a few natural changes (joys of getting older) 😠

Your trip piccies look fab Dave 👍

Depending on family, I am up for Black Hill on Sunday 2 Oct. i suggest parking cars at each end and doing a one-way walk.

    So, details.

As mentioned, I propose Black Hill in the Peak District.

I suggest we meet at the Crowden Car Park, located jus west of the A628 and B6105 junction. No idea if it's a pay an display or not, I assume it is. I suggest a meeting time of 0930

    My proposed route would be:

Crowden - Pennine Way - Laddow Rocks - Black Hill - Tooleyshaw Moss - White Low - Westend Moss - Hey Edge - Crowden

    ~9 miles with 500m ascent

Skip - we can meet earlier at Wessenden Head or Holme Moss and leave your car there if you still want to do a one way

Let me know if you're keen; I'll start a list:

    BUMP!

Dave and I had hoped that with the revamped website and the discussions about revitalising OM that meets might be revived - that is one reason Dave posted this thread. Sadly, it looks as if it may be just us this Sunday

Anyone else fancy an invigorating stomp across fine Derbyshire moorland? Details in Dave's post above.
