Bloody silly name. I shall henceforth refer to it as 'the organisation previously known as the BMC'

Can see why they changed it - to encourage the large number of peeps who never make it up a mountain to cough up thirty quid a year.

Hopefully this latest link from Grough outdoors news might help.

Apparently they have done this as they just were all so fed up with the state of the world, Brexit, Boris, Trump, and the new PM, so they just felt like being complete and utter total gits and trauming people up a bit......well, ok, reading a bit between the lines there and all.... Think that is basically it though in a nutshell.

I was wondering whether this was a "July Fools' joke...? But no. Like others I got the BMC email with the change. Doesn't work for me on any level. Can't see how it's more inclusive - if anything it seems less inclusive and more specific. It sounds more like an event, rather than a professional body! I worry they've made a big mistake and will end up changing it again if they keep it. Seems to have been mishandled and that has backfired. The hostility (not on OM but elsewhere) has been unfair. The BMC do a grand job generally (many are volunteers giving time freely) and the abuse is just out of order. Just wish they hadn't changed the logo to this one which I fear will date quickly and lose members! The MCofS seem to have the right idea.

That's what I think about rebranding most organisations, except maybe tech startups. Or Sunday newspapers after a series of scandals...

But Jim, they close down newspapers here after big sets of scandals! We definitely needs an organisation like our BMC.

I also agree (and I'm a designer!) I've watched a few organisations change their logo and I can honestly say very few have made any difference or worked. The BMC debacle (because that's what it is) is the strongest case in point so far. I hope common sense prevails and the BMC remains.
