Has anyone done the Evolution loop in the States. Is it possible to get to the start and get from the finish on public transport? (from Kettering).
    Hopeful, dreaming Therese

Sorry thought I was the only stay at home bird. It's a trail in the high sierra nevada that goes through mountains named after famous people involved in evolution theories. Mendle, Darwin. The John Muir trail goes through some of the area I think.

I've walked and skied through the area, on and off the John Muir Trail, though I haven't done the Evolution Loop as such. You can't get to South or North Lakes by public transport as far as I know. However you used to be able to get a Greyhound Bus from Los Angeles to Bishop on US 395in Owens Valley from where you can get a shuttle service to the trailheads.

The section through Evolution Valley below Mts Mendel, Darwin, Spencer, Haeckel, Wallace and Huxley is part of the John Muir Trail and is spectacular.

Post that on US website and you'll prolly get some crap about creationist trail.
Actually, if you go to www.thebackpacker.com and ask for some details you'll prolly get some good local info to add to what Chris has provided.
