Not been out for a couple of weeks, and getting a bit bored, so I thought I would weigh my recently acquired overnight gear. I've not actually gone and done a wild camp yet, as I'm too chicken shit to go on my own. But over the last few months I have put together a good selection of gear, all bought in sales, with most of the stuff coming in at 40-50% less than RRP. I've used all the stuff numerous times this year car camping and have managed to hone what I do and don't need. Anyway, I've put it all together this evening in an Osprey kestrel 58 just to see what the all up weight is. The total including food and 3.5 litres of water is 14.6 kg. this also includes a luxury item of a Helinox ground chair. Without the chair and the water the gear alone would be 10.5 kg. I was actually very pleased with this, as although good quality gear, none of it is ultra light. I'm hoping to try it all for real and get out on my first wild camp before the summer weather has gone completely, I just need that final push to get out and do it

Unless of course he is planning on going someplace where drinking water is in short supply perhaps?

Too late - summer's been and gone. You must have blinked!

Although we had a pretty good week last week in the Lakes.

I'm so envious of those folk who can conjure water from a desert, so to speak. After a recent debacle trying to locate a spring that a Mr Wainwright (deceased) assured in his guidebook, 'never ran dry', I was reduced to straining a bog. After which I bought a Sawyer filter. And I still generally carry a couple of litres of water.

Getting back to the point, 14.6 kg with water and food is pretty awesome for the level of comfort implied by toting a chair along.

But pointless unless Darra8 gets out & puts it to use. Just going to be 'Classifieds' fodder otherwise.

    Just do it!
