Okay, we are looking seriously at developing a meets calendar for the site which can be used to organise meets and in particular carry the sort of definitive details which otherwise get buried under the weight of forum posts.

The idea would be that once the meet details were finalised, they could be posted on the calendar along with a contact for the main organiser (if there is one).

We could also incorporate more general events like outdoor shows and events, walking festivals and so on.

What I'd like to know quickly, is what you'd want from the calendar, ie which details you'd want to be able to display etc.

It seems logical to me that we could also link it to a gallery for that meet, so after the event, people would be able to upload pics and so on.

I would like to see the following:

    Event date: - 15/16/17 March 3000
    Location: - The moon
Event details: - because its there / General / training, course / Climbing/Walking
Associated thread: - Who?s coming to the moon.
    Associated web site: - www.campsiteonthemoon.moon
    Contact: - Neil.Armstong.jnr@themoon.moon
And maybe a small comment box, so any other info could be added e.g. the gallery link afterwards. Or cancelled due to lack of gravity for example.

Please note this is not a planed meet just an example

not a planned meet?? Awwwwwwwww I was looking forward to that too

    I'd want:
date, location, activities planned, organiser, max numbers (if applicable)

I would NOT want a comment box for anyone other than the organiser to contribute to, or it would just turn into a debate!

Would it be better for attendees to simply e-mail the organiser via a calendar link? One of the drawbacks of the forum is that it's hard to keep track of who's going on a meet?

New at this meet thing, but we're trying to tie up a thing next weekend, Glasgow Tiso Cafe Sat29/ Ben Lomond Sun30, the hardest thing is keeping it visible so folk know it's on, if you keep bumping it up you look a bit needy (?).
A think a list with soonest first shown at the top and the proposers email is good, if it was cluttered up with too much detail, I'd tend to skim over the list and maybe miss something.
A place and a date would stick out, and I would either be intersted or not.

I'd like an ACTUAL calendar, with meets blocked off, then you can click on the dates for details. Any blank/white days have no meets. If you see what I mean. Then the soonest meet would obviously be first on the calendar. If there were two meets one weekend, then maybe a drop down menu thing so you cna select which you wnat details for.

I like that as well, but you might have to click on a lot of boxes to find one that suits, how about more desk diary style so you can still see some detail.

You mean like an Outlook calendar? I think that would be a good format too. Would it be possible to have a calendar that could incorporate definite and provisional meets - that could make it easier to organize one without, as PTC says, bumping it up all the time? They could be colour-coded to differentiate.

Yes, exactly like an outlook calendar. Where you can see the title or location of hte meet, but have to click for full details. So you wouldn't ned to click loads to find what you wanted.

I was replying to Cara with that comment BTW! PTC, if the initial data showing were simply date and location then that should be sufficient for peeps to know if it's worthwhile for them to click through?

Also, something to indicate if a meet is full and can't be joined e.g. the winter skills meets.

PTC - you wouldn't need to display the organiser's email addy as anyone can contact any of us by clicking on our names.
Openly written email addies = spam-frenzy.

    Roger,

I think your idea of a meet on the moon is a very good one though it may be difficult to plan that far ahead, also not sure if Neil Armstrong is currently a member. I think it may lack a little atmosphere though. Would be quite intense.

ps. would you be repeating your fantastic chicken casserole?

I agree with the outlook calender idea, maybe colour code different types of meet, general get togethers in green, training courses in red, etc.
