Feeling really disappointed having spent ages trying to get about 30 photos onto the gallery for a trip report. There's all the hassle involved, some just keep getting spat out (size is ok), then they get all jumbled up and end result - they look crap. The originals were ok.

It looks like most people doing trip reports just link to their own blogs.

.. a few use Scottish Hills

... and another few link to photos elsewhere.

The gallery was quite a feature of the forum once upon a time.

Is it ever going to be more user friendly?

Any suggestions please? I'd like some place to keep photos, free if possible, easy to use, retain the quality and be able to link to them.

    Picassa/Flikr etc I suppose.

I recently started paying a token amount each year for piwigo, to get unlimited storage and things. Can be had elsewhere of course.

All of the online photo sites can be linked into here very easily, so no obvious reason not to.

Uk Climbing/hillwalking maybe? Never checked how they work but they get some very nice photos indeed.

It's clunky and useless; SHills, Photobucket and G+ for me these days. I keep everything on my blog too.

I never look at the Gallery; pity as I used to like those monthly 'best pictures from the Gallery' items....now we get You Tube videos...

The reviews really are a shame in a way, because they were a bit unique.

I remember using the gallery for a bit....my memory was it became a bit of a toy for one of the chat threads for a while and I lost interest.

I remember the good old days when we used to pass word around to vote on Ed's photos so as to make him feel good .....
Can the powers that be @ OM HQ not include in the gallery a small piece of software to just click, resize, upload.
    YEH MAYBE NOT!!

I hate to say this, but it's being reviewed with a view to an overhaul. I'm fully aware that it doesn't work as well as a full-on image site like Flickr. I'd like to allow people to hot-link to their image galleries elsewhere along with a lot of other stuff. Similarly on the review front.

Incoming pedant alert. Things are either unique or they aren't There is a lot of good information in the Reviews. It's a shame it isn't more accessible and that site users can't create their own reviews.

Alas, not true of Flickr any longer...

I used to use the OM gallery a lot, mostly for trip reports, but when the functionality went up the spout, I opened a Flickr account. For a while that was easy to link from, but when I came to do my last ski touring report I couldn't find any way to get at the Flickr url for an individual jpg. Flickr now seems to treat photos as sets and the display is handled by some code that doesn't reveal the url. I saw something in their help to the effect that they didn't want people linking Flickr images to external sites because it went against their "flickr community values", whatever they might be

So if OM does ever sort out its own Gallery functionality, I'll happily go back to using it

Matt - if you click on a photo in Flickr then in the right hand banner/column there's a 3 dot icon (more actions).

Within more actions is download all sizes.

Right click on the appropriate size gives a direct link.

I gave up using "The Gallery" (remember Vision On, folks?!) when functionality went up the spout and I moved onto Picasa. I now provide a link in my trip reports to the Picasa photos for that trip, and sometimes paste in an individual image - you can still do that with Picasa.

I would really like to see a proper trip reports section in OM where we can paste up photos that are hosted on OM!

Oh, so that's Matt sorted then

    Thanks for your comments folks.

So will the new and improved gallery have accompanying music?

On the bigger picture front, I'd love us to be able to give people a much more sophisticated way of sharing their own trip reports, images, videos and so on.
