I have just posted a query about Barrowburn Camping Barn.

The barn is superbly located in Northumberland, west of Rothbury in the valley of the River Coquet. It is surrounded by the Cheviot Hills and three miles from the Pennine Way.

This is some of the most remote hill country in Northumberland and is virtually deserted even at the weekend. There are bronze age drovers routes, Roman roads and medieval trackways everywhere. This is great walking country!

I think Barrowburn would be a superb location for a walking meet, perhaps in September or October this year. The barn seems good but basic and is vry inexpensive. There is space for tents too.

Is anyone interested in a Cheviots Meet??

If enough of you answer 'yes' I will start a meet thread with a list and provisionally book the barn.

I have stayed there a couple of times with a few people and it is a really good spot. You can also hire the deer hut next door [with a bath so all can have one].The owners are very friendly and have a cafe in the house at the entrance and do meals and snacks.Count me in please

Davidsons Linn not far from Uswayford, lovely spot.

The barn has a couple of sofas in the lounge area with a log fire .A small room that sleeps one in the corner of there..Stairs up from the lounge to two sleeping platforms .The kitchen has a full cooker with crockery and pans. Can'tremember if it had a fridge. No bunks just take your own mat and sleeping bag .nice and warm when the fire is on .The deer hut had a lounge with a coal fire, sofas, large dining table, full kitchen andI think there aretwo bedroomswith bedsand there was a fold up bed in there too.

On the Barrowburn website, it says there is parking beside the camping barn for three cars. The barn is about 200 metres from the farmhouse and tearoom up a track - I think a couple more cars could be parked lower down the track and a few more at the tearoom.

Depends on dates, but put me down as a perhaps. Keep meaning to get up that way.

There is also a car park a couple of hundred metres back on the road .Think we had about seven cars up there beside the bunkhouse and Deer hut

The post quoted in full below was in the preceding Barrownburn thread. I've reposted it here for completeness:

Totally agree about the location - I don't get out that much at the moment due to other commitments but that area is one of my favourite in Northumberland - will park half a mile further up the road at the stream at the bottom of 'The Street' and up to 'Wyndy Gyle' is a favourite walk.

    POSSIBLE DATES

I haven't yet checked availability of Barrowburn Camping Barn but I had September or October in mind.

As there is interest from nearly a dozen people so far and as most are dependent on date, perhaps we should start narrowing down possible weekends now?

    Please consider me a 'possible/maybe'.

I won't know dates until nearer the time. It's about time I got to meet some of you for 'real'. It's also a good opportunity to widen my knowledge of Northumberland too.
