Any one interested in an OM meet in the Mournes around last weekend of March 2013?

Dates are flexible from 2nd week March to end of April.

If any interest I can check about staying in hostels, or wild camping if you want.

    LMK.

Hey Huskyman, I'm interested, but only if it's in April - I have no annual leave left until April 1st!

So far Mal no one else has showed any interest.

Unfortunately typical of peeps in Ireland, I don't know why

If you do want to go no problem.

I can make sure I've no work when it suits.

We can have a chat at Snowdonia meet.

    Hi Becky,

I'll let this one fade and post a new one around Feb. 2013.

Mal I know can't make March, so will post again for April/ May. (Depending on if I Can get time off then !).

Oh, it won't be anything near Wales, the Mournes doesn't have ridges like that., (sob).

    I'll LYAK.

Does LYAK mean let you all know?

Its so difficult getting everyone off at the same time isnt it! I'll be up for it whenever, i have a rubbish job and they dont miss me it i take time off lol. I'd prob get a flight over to Belfast and make my way from there (is that feasible?)

    Let You All Know.

Flight to Belfast and a bus to Mournes area, depending on where you start.

Easy enough to get to by bus. During spring to autumn a bus, (called the Rambler), runs round the High Mournes, with stops at the main access points. So you can do a walk from one point to another and get the bus back.

BTW. Before I close this thread down.

Would you want to camp or sleep in accommodation?

As would have to work out where and what to do, depending on overnight plans.

    Paul.

I'd prefer to wild camp- can we do that in your part of the world?

There is a very small chance I might be able to make it.

    Not a problem Mini Mal.

Wild camping is common in the Mournes as long as you camp high in lambing season, no one has ever gave me any bother. Once you get to Mourne wall and over it, it's not farmed land, it belongs to the Water Board and they don't care, as long as you are careful with camp fires..

My thought was doing a circuit of the wall, it's 22mls long, over 2 days easy enough. once you get up it undulates a bit, but not to strenuous.

Or I can plan another route through the middle, taking a few peaks on the way.

I don't mind either way, camp sites will probably bethe same.

I could hire a car and meet peeps at airport, (not fri. 13th ).

I'll leave things as are, post again in the new year when I get a calender.

April or May will be the time, I know you can't make before and if the dates I post, with enough interest in an other weekend, I'll change plans/ work.

Working for myself, I can be flexible around then, not from June to September. That's the main holiday period and I won't be able to take time off.

Paul, just for the record, my college holiday is either side of Easter weekend, i.e. last week in March and first week in April. I'd love to venture over to the Mournes (and other areas in Ireland), but have very limited travel experience and, as yet, no wild camping gear.

May be it's a goal I could aim for. If I cut out the cigs and don't drink so much red wine I might find the dosh!

    Pete,

We'll see nearer time when peeps may be able to get holidays.

Re. Camping gear, I don't think you'd need much other than a Lightweight tent.

That can be sorted if necessary, I can lend one of mine.

Cheers Paul, I'll keep my eyes open for a reawakening of this, or a fresh thread, in the new year.
