Can't make it but hope you have better weather than we did. We were in Betws-y-Coed for a week at the beginning of July and the weather was not good. Too much low cloud and a fair amount of rain. One day it just tipped it down so we went for a short walk to see Aber Falls. Very spectacular in full spate. The return leg was done in low cloud and driving rain. Some of the return leg you couldn't see more than a few hundred yards.

Our brightest and best day was of course the last one. Whilst the Carnedd mountains were shrouded in grey cloud we had a glorious day walking round the Great Orme at Llandudno. (Apologies if I've got the names wrong but my memory is ........ something or other ). We even finsihed the wal with ice cream!

There are some interesting low level routes to be found that keep you below 400 metres and we did have a couple of interesting routes from Capel Curig itself. The highest we got to was just over 800 metres on a route from a guide book that hardly anyone ever uses. The return leg was done in a mixture of sunshine and mist as the cloud enveloped us and there was little or no route on the ground in some places and it was a little boggy.

I do hope to go back in better weather, but that's our second trip to Snowdoniaand we've yet to have more than one sunny day in a week!

Weatherwise - I mostly do well despite Capel Curig being the wettest place in Wales! This past weekend was great, we were up in the slate quarries for 11 hours on Saturday and not a spot of rain. The Moel Siabod cafe just up the road from the barn provided respite on a wet Sunday morning before a dry afternoon.

The cafe comes recommended by the club members - newish ownership and they are making a real effort with decent food, leather sofas and wifi.

There is some good walking to be had just by heading up from the barn rather than down to the A5. Just walk past the club cottage and head through the trees. There's lakes, hills, woods and eventually some of the welsh 3000s or if you're on a mission, head to the coast for an ice cream.

Oh that's a shame, Mrs Chewie would be more than welcome!!! And if she doesn't want to walk with us, she could nip into Betws y Coed and spend all your money instead!

    LOL, LMM,

Your not the only singleton on meet!!

I hope there's single rooms and I'm bringing extra strong ear defenders!!!

Oh, do we need to bring sleeping bags for the sleeping arrangements?

If so what sort of rating?

Don't bring a minimus, huskyman! Remeber what happened to the last fool who turned up with one of those...

I'll be bringing my Pipedream- it's never let me down! From what I remember, the hut is quite warm, but I guess that time of year could be pretty chilly.

Speaking of Singletons, I hope this one puts in an appearance..

Mini Mal, I brought a Minimus too, remember it was around -6c and I was that warm I had to take base layers off!! So + 5c bag might be enough for me. I do 'run' a bit hot.

    Don't know that Singleton!

You bring that, I'll bring some of the Laphroaig, the second one, a wee bit stronger at about 53 to 58%, depending on which I buy.

One of the skylights in the large upstairs room (not the one with the bunks) leaks, so given that it's autumn / winter, it might be worth a couple of people bringing sleeping bag covers in case it's a bit damp on the mattresses.

I brought back some "clear" stuff about that strength for West Cork - It isnt branded not sure if it is drinking stuff or rocket fuel. Recommended by the locals though

Nope, didn't see anything on which to report defects.
