No cynicism about this for me, plenty about sportbut this is the very essence of the human spirit, to explore and understand the unknown. Fantastic job by NASA, the details of the landing procedure made for scary reading, so many things could do wrong, even here on Earth, never mind on Mars.

In the light of the Mash's article, I'm assuming that the indigenous population of Mars was feline?

LOL- good old Mash. If the Martians were feline maybe they had opposable thumbs- a real danger!

It is a major achievement- especially given Mars' ability to eat landers for breakfast. it's going to be really interesting to see what they find.

And lucky old Diddi, his family's names will be preserved for millennia

Will Hawkwind change the name of the entertaining ditty 'Uncle Sam's on Mars' to Diddi's on Mars?

, wonder if you get nuclear stoves for wildcamping , wouldnt think they would take up much space ( unless you had to dig a large hole ! )

They'd be heavy though, wouldn't they?

How would you deal with a meltdown?

    Morning Skip,

No, no meets planned just now, sadly

Rohan opening in Woodbridge has been taking up more and more of my time. I've been promoted to a supervisory role in the shop (act of desperation by management I suspect) and have been asked to attend the Rohan summer conference later this month to be interviewed one evening as 'entertainment' for the attendees. Presumably Paddy wasn't available .

I might be able to do something in October though. You available then?

Keep an eye on the Meets Diary thread, Nick - though there's nowt on there for October yet.

I've nothing specific planned after late September but I will certainly be out and about in October.

Sorry Dids - we've hijacked your thread. Back on topic, as Beth says tell us the story ....
