Thats 1m on the road watching, 3.7m on TV.

Still not a majority, but not bad for a 'niche' sport.

I had a similar experience to Weevil and posted it on Bennachie when I got back from a couple of days in town earlier in the week.

London was weirdly quiet. Eerily so, in fact. Nogridlock, overcrowding, or congestion. As I wrote on Bennachie, I know London well and go there a lot and I've rarely seen so little congestion nor so few people about in the west end. The tube was nearly empty too.

Everyone is staying away because of the hyp about overcrowding. So much so that hoteliers, restauranteurs, and retailers in central London are having a very lean time of it.

The downside of the clear roads is that what traffic there was had an unimpeded run at me as a pedestrians. My usual practice of nipping across roads by weaving between slow-moving vehicles suddenly became a recipe for a messy demise. I had to cross at traffic lights! Imagine the indignity of waiting for the green man like a bloody tourist!

    I love watching sports.

The Limpics have very little to do with sport.

The modern Limpics are basically a follow on from the 1938 games. Propoganda is everything.

Feel free, Dids, you're unlikely to reach the levels that would trigger effing and jeffing from me

1938? Ah, the famous Games of the XI.5th Olympiad... As I remember, Germany won the gold for annexation that year, and "Team GB" came home with no medals but a very nice bit of paper

Amazing 800m freestyle race by the 15 year old American girl. Must be a couple of very proud parents out there!

Andy Murray guaranteed at least silver in tennis singles. Good luck to him against Fed - be nice revenge for Wimbledon!

    Murray beat Djokovic

Now he'll be beaten by Federer

I've just noticed it's only three sets! Mens singles... three sets? WTF is that about? Is that the maximum attention span of Olympic sports fans?

No, very few tennis competitions go to 5 sets, if I recall correctly, just the 4 Grand Slam tournaments. 3 sets is the usual for men's and women's tennis.

Murray has every chance against Fed; he totally dominated Fed for the first 1.5 sets in the Wimbledon final, if he repeated that it'd be very tough for Fed to come back. Fed's also just finished one of the longest ever 3 set singles matches, and the final's tomorrow, no rest day as you get in Wimbledon.

Still think Murray has as good a chance as Fed of winning the gold though.

    3 sets. Equality for all.

Do you live in london weevil? If you do you display a quite shocking ignorance of local affairs.

Re the cyclist. Yet another cyclist gets killed by a large vehicle turning left - will they ever learn. This, of course, is everybody else's fault.
