I'll be driving up from Wiltshire by myself (sad git syndrome). With regards to sorting cars at the start and end of the walk, mine's a Vectra with space for four others.

Sorry Simon, you're not really on my route.

Don't mistake me for someone who has a clue what he's doing... but here's my suggestion for car-shunting.

We'll be starting our walk from the Quarry carpark (grid ref SO771469) which is under North Hill just outside Great Malvern on the B3242 road. We'll finish at Chase End about eight miles south of there.

Rather than slog back on foot, I suggest we leave at least two vehicles near the southern end of the walk at the free carpark at Hollybush (grid ref SO766367) which is under Midsummer Hill on the A438 road. The remaining vehicles can be left at Quarry carpark.

We plan to start our walk at 09.30 so the drivers of vehicles being left at Hollybush should arrive there at 09.00 (thereby allowing half-an-hour to park and be driven to the start point)

The Teesdale Viking and I will be in two cars and we will rendezvous at Hollybush for 09.00. We can then ferry the drivers of the cars left at Hollybush to the start point at the Quarry.

If my mate Andrew comes (and that looks likely) he will meet us at Hollybush and leave his 4WD there - the vehicle can take four passengers back to the Quarry after the walk.

I suggest Neil also meets us at Hollybush. Assuming he's in his 4WD he can also ferry four people back after the walk. Is that OK with you, Neil?

If I leave my small estate car at Hollybush, that has room for three passengers back to the start point. So the capacity from Hollybush to the Quarry will be three drivers and up to eleven passengers.

When the cars are parked at Hollybush, The Teesdale Viking can drive me, Andrew and Neil to the Quarry to join the rest of the group. Any other cars should drive straight to the Quarry in time for the 09.30 start: they can be parked there (a charge applies - I think it's three quid for all day).

    Does all that make sense?

Ok, I'll turn up with my car full of folk at the Quarry at 9:30am. Yep, I can manage that.

G wumpy might be coming along if he's feeling chipper

Simon, perhaps. It depends if you're available on Saturday for walking the Long Mynd and then camping on Saturday night, but also if G wumpy takes the fourth place in my car (although it will hold five, it's not practical with camping kit as well).

Okay I will drive to Hollybush for 9. I may not bring the freelander but the e- state, either way it will seat 4 or 5.

What's the plan for Saturday? I have emailed the campsite and am awaiting a response.

    There's a plan?

AFAIK people will arrive at Welland late afternoon to pitch. No-one's said a specific time yet. I'm assuming the adjacent pub does meals - if so, I'll probably eat there rather than faff about cooking.

I may be able to borrow Pater's car? If I can I'll probably do the walk and then head back home.

No room at the (Marbank, Welland) Inn They didn't answer the email & just called them to enquire.

So, is there somewhere else sensible to camp on Saturday night?
