Anyone know please why I can't open gpx files from this site on memory map? I use

http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ regularly and there is no problem with gpx from that site. There are also other walking sites were the gpx also doesn't work for me.

    Any advice gratefully received.

Sometimes it tries to open using mmo as default. Open Memory map first, then open gpx, rather than clicking on a gpx and right clicking then trying to open with MM.

Thanks Jester but I have followed your suggestion with no avail.

Now on this site, pick a route and left click the gpx link and the 404 error message comes up. So right click and save link on the desktop as gpx file. But memory map doesn't want to know it even when open!

If other members of this site can open these files then must be my mm version or settings?

Same for other trails, such as "Offas dyke circular walk". They might appear to be GPX files, but there's no actual GPX info in them.

As said some of the downloads are not gpx files, but some are. mm won't open them but easygps does. Then save as gpx file and mm will then open it. Don't know why mm doesn't open in the first place but there we are.

Which route(s) specifically are you trying to download/open?

Thats not a GPX file. In any way, shape or form. Open the file in Notepad, it looks like this:

404 - File or directory not found.

    Server Error

404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

All that script does is instruct the webpage to tell you there is no file. (The bit i bolded and highlighted is a big clue. BTW, ignore the emoticons, that's just the forum trying to make sense of what's there)

A real GPX file will look something like this. A list of waypoints which, when loaded into a GPS device, will show a route.

Here you go. I knocked up a proper GPX file, based on 'route 1117' shown in the picture on your linked page. Download this and stick it in your device.

    Right click, save as.
