Thank god we've still got an NHS - no need to go private!

I am making a list of 'communal' items to buy so that I can bring them in by Landrover.

    So far the list includes:
    milk,
    bread,
    marge or butter,
    big box of teabags,
    sugar,
    washing-up liquid and pan scourers,
    kitchen roll

What have I forgotten? What else do you suggest?

I really hate to do this given that I've paid and wat not, but I might have to play this a little by ear for the next few days. My dad has a serious fall today and is in hospital at the moment. He's stable, the tests have come back OK and he should be out in a day or two, but I may have to cancel at the last minute if his situation gets worse. If that happens I'll try to let you all know asap.

I'm really sorry to hear that PH - keep us in the picture.

I'm sure I speak for everyone in wishing your dad a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks Skip, I've let Neil Eppey know by email too just in case he doesn't get the chance to visit the forum for a few days.

Welcome, Sladey - glad you can make it

I see you're down for spag bol already but do you want any drink(s) carrying in on the Landrover?

    Any questions, just ask here.

Where can I park for free around butter mere? Going to come in over haystacks this time as did the long flat walk in last time. I'm thinking about getting there early and going for a walk on The tops but forecast looking rubbish at the moment

Near Buttermere village? Around 176 171. Just above the T-junction and the little church on the road that leaves the village towards Newlands. There's some rough open ground on the left and, failing that, also a reasonably wide verge for a way up the hill, room for quite a few cars.

And then a good path along the south side of Buttermere to reach either Gatesgarth or Scarth Gap (or the the north shore if you don't mind a bit of road to reach Gatesgarth).

@ Glenn Also, there's the roadside verge (where Nick the ex mod parked for BS3) just up the hill from Gatesgarth towards Honister.

    Weather reports

MWIS (Lakes): Rain most of the day, heaviest western and southern fells with clearance most likely into the afternoon. Southwesterly upland gales with speeds of 45 but easing toward 30mph in the afternoon.

Met Office Mountain forecast (Lakes): Rain, heavy at first, becoming drier later. Strong southwesterly winds easing. Showers follow. Freezing level above the summits.

Met Office general forecast for northwest (thurs to Sat): Rather cloudy and breezy on Thursday with occasional light rain possible. A band of rain, heavy at times, spreading southeast through Friday. Cooler, showery conditions following on Saturday.

Get your last orders in ASAP - shopping day tomorrow!

Re Saturday, anyone got plans? I quite fancy a bit of walk-run on easy-ish going plus a bit of scrambling on steeper ground.
