    Evening all...

A good weekend on the moor had, but unfortunately while I was away from the moor running a half, my significant other decided that she would try battling a barbed wire fence with her wee airic. Firstly... I told her so! Never strap stuff to the outside of a pack!

Secondly... does anyone have experience with a good way of repairing (probably) multiple punctures in a self-inflating kip mat?

You can buy specialist repair kits from Thermarest, but gaffa tape and a bicycle puncture repair kit can work too. You might want to contact Alpkit - they're very helpful and may be able to advise.

If the holes are only very small, just rubbing the adhesive in can do the trick, and only need a patch for larger holes.

They usually just say "put it in the bath to find the leaks" this is easier said than done! The mat wants to float. The only way I have managed is to fill the bath (with warm water), strip off & get in with it, folding it over and checking each bit repeatedly. Marking each hole with chalk works okayish, but by the time you've identified 3 or 4 holes, it starts washing off!

McNett do a very good glue/sealer - sticks to anything. Can't recall it's name - silnet or something? Taunton Leisure sell it. A dab of that works wonders on suchholes.

    Be nice to the SO!

Cheers fellas, I'm slowly but surely educating her, but it's been an expensive couple of months in terms of repairs! First there was the pocket left open on the gore-tex... snag.. tear! 50 repair bill, and now the airic!
