I'm after a knife. Just a blade. No screwdrivers, no things for getting stones out of horse's hooves, no multitools (I'm not going to cut my arm off); I'm not into bushcrafting either. I just want a fairly small, light blade.

I've see the Pretzl Spatha on the website and the small version (6cm blade) looks like about the right size. Anyone used one, or got any other suggestions? Thanks

From a purely personal perspective, I quite like the Spatha because it's orange and it's named after a cool Roman sword. I should also have bought the Vaude Scutum when it was called that and then I'd have a cool Roman shield too

Actually K8... scrub that. An Opinel number 6 is as simple as it gets and holds a really sharp edge.

It'll cost about £7 or £8 - they are ubiquitous

If you want a simple blade Kate, how about the Spyderco Ladybug?

That's what i carry on backpacking trips. Only a 2"(ish) blade, and very light.

I know it's not what Kate is looking for, but if your after a tiny multi tool Maplin have a pair for £6, the one with the intergrated carabina doesnt look too bad.

I've got a Spatha Kate - its neat enough, sharp - but does not lock.

I also have a Ladybug and as Muck says -its better for backpacking. The Buck Hartsook is nice too - someone gave me one of those when I was in the US - there's not a lot to go wrong with it.

    And its black.

    K8

Just so you are aware - any locking blade is illegal to carry in the UK unless you have good reason to do so. I am not trying t o open up the whopping great knife debate, just pointing that out for you

thought it was illegal to carry any knife, not just a lock-knife, without good reason, anyway,I'm sure Katie has good reason to carry a knife... she uses it to carve the notches in her handgun

Just for the purpose of point labouring :

"It is an offence for any person, without lawful authority or good reason, to have with him in a public place, any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except for a folding pocket-knife which has a cutting edge to its blade not exceeding 3 inches"

    .

"....however even a folding pocket knife of less than 3" (76mm) may still be considered an offensive weapon if carried or used for that purpose."

So if K8 stabs someone with it, then it will be an offensive weapon. However, there is no law to prevent her carving a notch in her gun afetr shooting someone

Is that really Woozle, Mike? I thought he would somehow be shorter and plumper than that.

It was filmed 30 years ago, right enough.

Seemingly he's let himself go a bit.
