Argos appear to be trying hard to break into the outdoor market this year. In their Extra catalogue that have loads of outdoors kit. This includes:

    Vaude and karrimor tents.
Vaude, Karrimor, Regatta and Crag Hoppers rucksacks.
Regatta and Crag Hoppers clothes and a Karrimor PacLite jacket for £135.
    Vaude Sleeping bags.
    Trangia cooksets.
    Loads of Hi-geat bits.
    Garmin GPS too.

Ok, not much is top-of-the-range kit, but ideal for the occasional user or the 'wear, trash and bin' users.

Be careful with mini-fridges - car batteries don't last a full weekend if powering a mini fridge. The nice RAC man helped us out at a Buttermere campsite though!

Just to point out that this year my shop is stocking VauDe, and we are crapping ourselves about the prices.

To be honest, we've only seen the couple of sleeping bags and packs they have... I will have to source out Argos Extra (how can I get hold of it?) Just think about the little shops and specialist stores that are loosing out to the big company giants.

They may be big, but my colleuges and I were wetting ourselves at the "200mm hydrostatic head" on their tents... We still can't belive that - and worse off the spotty kid at the counter wont even know what HH is, let alone know that 200mm is utterly appauling.

Also, Alex what VauDe tent do you have? I'm looking to get a Hogan shortly

I spotted a 1 man tent in there a few months ago for about £25 - £30. Anyone any idea if it is any good?

I wouldn't expect it to complete with a terra Nova or anything, but even if it only last 1 season in the Lakes or N Yorks moors, it's still got to be value for money.

Yes, it's the Pro Active 1-man tent, £30.

If you step back trough the gear section, you'll find reviews and comments. Oh go on, here you are:

    dirt cheap 1 man tent

    and

    UKC Argos tent thread

A search on uk.rec.walking will also reveal lots of discussion about it.

Basically, a copy of Sierra Designs Light Year tent. Plus: alloy poles. Minus: mesh too large to stop midges.

Daniel I have a Vaude Mark II which has given great service in the Lakes, Wales Rockies and Pyranees. It's basically a bigger version of the Hogan

I believe that to be the Hogan Mark II, but for some reason they drop the word Hogan.

Description says "Based on the same design as the smaller Hogan" so I think you're probably right
