maybe sewing patches into modern "technical" rucksacks isn't the greatest of ideas, and that's why they are harder to find.

true but they are still good mementoes even if not for the rucksack.

Dunno about sew-on patches, but there's a shop in Ambleside sells pin-on badges. They're along the lines of - I climbed Helvellyn and ddn't whinge (much) - I climbed Scafell Pike and almost made it - that sort of thing. I can't remember the name of the shop but it's a few doors away from the Climbers Shop and on the same block.

You can get 'I climbed Scafell T-shirts' and certificates and, possibly, patches from the farm at Seathwaite.

Perhaps you could also get one of those walking stick badges to nail onto some carbon poles.

I remember those patches! They were great!

If it's any help, there's a farm on the main route off Conni Old Man that sells badges.

Following a request of one of my veiwers, I'vefound that Youdale's Newsagent in Keswick sells a selection of the old sew on mountain badges similar to the ones I collected as a kid. Poor idea for Gortex but a great idea for fleece jackets or cotton stile gillets.

Phone them on 01 768 772259 and ask for details

Wow you can get tshirts, I didn't know that, I'm there while doing the national 3 peaks challenge with the british heart foundation at the end of June, wonder if the other two do souvenirs as well. I hope so.

    Hi New Climber,

The farm cafe at Seathwaite is not open this year so I presume the t-shirts are not on sale.

See my previous message for Youdale's shop in Keswick for a badge. (Please ignore spelling mistakes - stile/style)

I'm going to have "Didn't I meet you up Scafell Pike?" tattooed across the cheeks of my arse - it'll add interest for other walkers when I moon them.

I don't really get this 'souvenir' stuff anyway. To me, it's the fell walking equivalent of stamp collecting. Isn't it satisfaction enough to know you've walked up this or that hill? Mind you, I'm just an elderly sceptical curmudgeon so what the feck do I know?

    Hi Nate,

Been into the Youdale shop in Keswick but he has none. His supplier of cloth badges no longer makes the metal ones for sticks. Sorry about that.
