Was watching the last(but hopefully not) of the'Wainwright' programs last week wherethe intrepid Juliewent up 'Pillar'.

As I hate the drive up theWest Coast (and often camp in the Keswick area anyway) then was thinking about doing Pillar from Haystacks.

Looks a good day out walking on the map but has anyone done Pillarvia this route?

    Cheers

    Pete

Yes, by dropping down into Ennerdale and up to Black Sails:

or this is a great way from Ennerdale:

A combination of the two would make a good round - climb from the second one returning via Black Sails to Scarth Gap.

Another nice route to Pillarif you're camping at Keswick is from Seathwaite, over Great Gable and down the other side, traverse Kirk Fell then up Pillar.

I did Pillar/Kirk Fell/Gable from Honister earlier in the year, using Moses' Trod on the way out, and tis indeed a lovely walk. Going over Haystacks first would be perfectly doable too.
