Hi is there a route to complete these three in one day? is it possible to get off Bannerdale Crag and head for the Ford at Grid Ref NY 350 294? any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Trevor.

Trevor - those three are easily linked in a fairly simple walk. Head south along the road from Mungrisdale village, and watch out for a zigzag path climbing up the bracken slopes of Souther Fell. It doesn't go to the summit, so you'll have to head to the right near the top to reach the cairn. Next, I'd recommend heading for the gap between Souther Fell and Scales Fell, cross the footbridge over the River Glenderamackin, and follow the path upstream to a gap between Foule Crag and Bannerdale Crags. Head east to reach the top of Bannerdale Crags. Next, simply walk round the top of the steep slopes overlooking Bannerdale, and make a beeline for the rounded top of Bowscale Fell. The best descent involves retracing steps downhill a bit, then using a clear and obvious path leading straight down to Mungrisdale. (There's no point you trying to reach the ford you mention, not from Bannerdale Crags anyway. It's all rough ground on the descent and doesn't really serve any purpose.)

Cheers Paddy thats the sort of advise I was looking for, especially about the ground. Looks like a short day which is ideal with the weather the way it is.

    Thanks again.

PS might ask about some other routes at a later date if you don't mind?

I'll likely respond if I'm around and see it... but when I'm away for weeks on end... someone else will have to deal with it!
