Browsing on ebay lately approximately 80% of North Face Gear seems to be clearly fake, and either there's been an explosion in clearance stock of Mountain Hardwear and Mountain Equipment or they're being targeted now.
Berghaus seems to be limited to fake hats, and Lowe Alpine doesn't seen affected, presumably because they've not got the fashion cachet the other brands have. I wonder whether we'll get fake Paramo soon?

    Fake Paramo?

...maybe you wouldn't roast in it, and you may even be able to sit down on wet ground

Fake Paramo - Hopefully though you would still be able to get from a to b without sounding like a crisp packet or looking like something off a christmas tree :-)

I think we should put Dave and Neil in a ring with that green-skinned woman from Star Trek with a Klingon weapon each and fight it out ;o)

Even better - a water fight

Give them both water pistols and crisp packet 'bombs' and see who's base layer is dryest at the end.

My money is on Neil as long as he doesn't kneel in any puddles - the Paramo Ninja's Achiles heel.

JJ - Isn't that cruelty to green-skinned women?

I should have known it was a mistake to mention the P word...

Oops, hope I haven't started something here - there was definitely a smiley on my post.

And for the record I use both (but not at the same time).

I use both too (not at the same time either) I think Neill and I will agree to the water pistol/bomb fight - but we pick the venue and you all pay the costs. So Neill how about a water fight at Gokyo Lake ;-)

And the rather attractive scantily-clad green-skinned woman?

I used them both at the same time last weekend, and it seemed to work fine to me. Cascada trousers were good, but when it became really cold and blizzardy I put my ME Ama Dablams on top. No problem!

This must be the record for taking a thread OT and turning it into a Paramo v Goretex discussion - it took 1 post lol

PW, I guess you could have just used thermals underneath instead - but adding those might have involved removing trousers in a car park? !!!! ;-)

Darn, can't you do that anymore?

Signs to be erected in the Highlands:

    No Camping
    No Caravans
    No Overnight Parking
    No Removal of Trousers

Dave - no problem with a water/pistol fight, and i'll take your word that Gokyo Lake is some exotic location, from which we will probably not want to come back home, however there is one condition: I get to spend the first night alone with the 'rather attractive scantily-clad green-skinned woman' way! hey!

Neil - she has a well-sharpened weapon - but that would add to the 'frisson'.
